This is the 440 size Kampa air tent on the Bailey Unicorn Segovia. This quick video shows our usual pumping scenario. We have the 9 year old pumping it up with the manual pump that came with the air tent. We'll sometimes drag out the automatic pump and plug it into another valve. The automatic pump plugs into the inside of the caravan.
Is it worth it?
Well, let me tell you what I think about this tent. I absolutely love it. I love it love it love it. I was worth every darn pence, penny, won whatever. It doubles the size of our caravan and whoa it looks breezy and gorgeous with those curtains blowing in the wind that star gazer window at the top.
It's so much more than a regular awning. It helps with the privacy, we are usually outside of our caravan during the day when we hang around the caravan. It's a great place to grill, it offers a hide out when it rains, our kids love to hang out there and play and let us sleep a bit more in the mornings. It's a dream. The windows zip out to give it an awning type of feel or zip them up for a tent feel and block some wind on a windy day.
Is it worth it? Yes. Do I wish they had mosquito screens in every window instead of the side door areas, yes. But even without mosquito nets in every window, I love this.
Is it tough? How tough?
This air tent is heavy duty. I get the feeling it's as heavy duty as our caravan. You can push it when it's pumped up and it doesn't move. The plastic windows that zip out are thick and if roughly taken care of (may be don't let the kids walk on them and stab sticks into them) will last. This feels like a house.
How does this hold up after years of use?
We've had this tent for 3 years and have used it a great deal. Through bad weather, packing it up and setting it up over and over again. The material on the outside of the tent is tough. After three years of use, I still think it looks brand new and heavy duty tough.
How does it hold up in bad weather? How about heavy rain or wind?
We have weathered this through a typhoon and we were able to hold a nice card game through it. The weather was heavy rain and windy by the beach. That being said, on really windy days we have taken down the tent because the wind will catch in the tent and shake the caravan a bit. I'm sure that you could nail it down really hard and solve that problem or you could just take it down on a terribly windy day like we did and take the guess work out of whether or not you'll be sailing through the air later that day. Not really, but you never know.
How about installing it? Will my spouse divorce me? How'd you get it on there anyway?
On the side of your caravan if you look carefully you'll see some little tracks that run the length of the caravan. This hooks exactly into there. It takes a little bit of pull power and lining it up into the tracks. It is doable, no your spouse won't divorce you. Line it up and pull it through the tracks together. Our kids help to. This is the hardest part the rest is cake. Even removing it from the tracks is easy.
