Caravan Camping on the east coast at Goraebul Beach. Almost exactly a 2 hour drive from Daegu.
The eastern coast line is full of hidden gems for beach goers. Goraebul Beach is a beautiful long stretch white sandy beach. In the most northern most part of the beach stretch, just north (or to the left of the boat dock) next to it are beautiful rock formations that are great for finding sea slugs and for fishing.
While there are reserve camping sites that have permanant camping caravan set ups and camping site areas, wild camping sites at Goraebul, can be used without reservation. At the beach you'll see pine tree areas just off of the sandy beach area. One can set up a tent anywhere.
Most of the time you'll be able to camp and not pay anything, in the summer, sometimes there is a charge that will help to maintain the beach, water in the shower and wash areas, and take care of trash left during the busy season. If you do get charged, there will be a park attendant that will come by your campsite and ask you to pay. The charge can be between 10,000 and 30,000 won (about 10 to 30 dollars) per night per site.
For caravan goers, wild camping is usually possible right off of the beach at Goraebul if it isn't too busy. Most anywhere near the parking areas is fine, there are a few to choose from that will put you right on the beach. During busy summer times, camping by the beach will be nearly impossible but there is an overflow location right behind (off the beach) the whale tale (literally a giant whale tale statue) that is toward the most northern section of this beach.
Also, near the whale tale, boat dock, lighthouse area there are shops to pick up some fishing gear and snacks. Fishing off the rocks can be done without a license.

In the summer we found many sea slugs and had the kids do a science project to measure as many of them as they can. The sea slugs can be found in all sizes from little tiny to larger than my hand. They were numerous and beautiful on the red rocks.

We set up our caravan right off the beach, no electricity, but we can run off of solar power. There is a wash area right near the camping site. Neighbors in caravans come and go but it is advisable to try to get there early in the day on a Friday or Saturday as things and spots become harder to find on weekend nights. Weekdays are quiet, you might even get the whole beach to yourself.
Swimming at Goraebul beach is fine as there is almost no wave most times because of the breakwater, lighthouse/boat dock, but toward the red rocks I wouldn't recommend swimming with kids as the waves can hit hard against the rocks.
For exercise, taking a run or walk early morning is great as you'll be able to run on a pine tree path that runs along the beach, making it feel like you went to the forest instead of the beach. One can run all the way to the southern part of the beach and find a temple-like pavilion and reserve camping sites.
For a campsite, this place has it's share of things to do, space to run, and places to pick up gear, a wash area for dishes while camping and bathrooms for campers.
For things to do: check out the pine tree walk, the whale light house, the red rocks, long beach, southern pavilion, fishing and swimming. If you have some kind of boat, it would be possible to put it in the water in front of the whale lighthouse.
For gear: northern beach area has convenient stores and fish gear shops. A simple grocery store can be found walking about 5 minutes inland from the whale tale.
